Why I call Shayna a “miracle” dog

The short version is: because we found each other under the unlikeliest of circumstances;  because the love we share has helped each of us to heal from severe traumas; and because there’s something extremely unique about her intelligence, and the amazing “connection” we have.  She is the greatest external miracle of my life. And I will be forever grateful to the cosmic forces that brought us together on that cold spring morning in 2002.

In tribute to her, and to the joy, fun, inspiration and solace that she brings to my life, for the past few years I have been working on my first book, “Saved By Shayna: Life Lessons From A Miracle Dog.”

More than a personal memoir, I believe the book will be a testament to the transformative power of the “right” first dog on a troubled person’s life.

Hopefully it will also show what may be possible to others who are dealing with severe distant/recent traumas, and have thought about getting a dog, but aren’t sure if they’re ready for the responsibility — if they approach the adoption and “parenting” issue with great care.
